Festival from the Celestial Empire

The sportsmen of the Wushu centres of Ashgabat, Ahal and Dashoguz and the tae kwon do and kickboxing centres of Ashgabat participated in the 2d Wushu National Festival held at the Serdar Sports Centre in Ashgabat.

Those who participated in the opening ceremony would remember the Festival for a long time. The tournament started with the complex exercises – taolu in which Ashgabat sportsmen Khjimyrat Geldymamedov, Mekan Muradov and Muhammednur Melyaev ranked the first.

They also were the best in the sanshou competitions. The final fighting between M. Muradov and B. Orazgeldyev in the under 52 kg weight category was recognized as the best.

The Turkmen sportsmen will take part in the 2d World Junior Wushu Championships, which will be held in Indonesia this December. Our sportsmen’s performance at the first tournament held in 2006 was a success. They won three silver medals and the Turkmen national team ranked among best five teams. There is every reason to expect that the World Junior Wushu Championships in Indonesia will be a successful one for our sportsmen. The winners of the 1st Turkmenistan National Wushu Federation Cup, which will be held at the Serdar Sports Center in Ashgabat this November, will represent our country at the world sport arena.
